Illini Offer Sensational 09 Guard

The University of Illinois has offered Duncanville(TX) swing guard, Shawn Williams II. Williams is a higly talented 2009 rising star for a nationally ranked Duncanville team of which he leads in scoring. became aware of this offer quite some time ago when Williams informed us of the offer himself. We expected other sources who focus on Illini recruiting to uncover the offer, but since they have failed to do so we decided to finally bring it to the light. The offer was first extended in December. MSH was able to catch Williams play first-hand just a few short weeks prior at the Big Ticket Classic.

William told MSH that he is very interested in the Illini as he already has family located in Illinois. This offer adds to the ones he has already received from Arkansas, Baylor, Texas and Texas A&M. He also lists Florida, Louisville, and Kansas among his schools of interest.

Williams is a solid student with a 3.1/4.0 GPA. He comes from a basketball family in which both of his parents were successful players. Williams presently ranks as the 9th player in the class of 2009 according to Sports Illustrated. He was also named to the 2005-2006 All-USA Today Team for 2009.

MSH Scouting Report of Williams: A smooth wing player. Williams is a special player who oozes with potential. When watching him on the floor you can tell that the sky is the limit. He has soft hands and good mechanics on his jumpshot. His long arms allow him to be disruptive on defense. He is an excellent athlete that gets up high for rebounds. One thing that this sensational sophomore will need to improve upon is his passiveness during games. While somewhat understandable based on the talent of his team, he does appear to be coasting at times. He has time, and will grow into an all-out superstar over time.
