Rosenkranz To Wesleyan

April 12, 2007

Bob Quillman of IWUHoops.com is reporting that Travis Rosenkranz of Macon Meridian is headed to Illinois Wesleyan. Rosenkranz is a standout guard who garnered All-State honors this year according to MidStateHoops.com. There had been suspicion that Rosenkranz may have decided to be a preferred walk-on at Illinois. It appears that he has decided instead to pursue his medical career aspirations as he intends to go pre-med according to published reports. Wesleyan is commonly recognized as one of the elite academic insitutions in the country and is the second winningest program in Division Three history.

This is the second commitment in as many days for the storied Wesleyan program. Just yesterday Quillman reported that Sean Johnson of Washington had announced his intentions to play for Coach Ron Rose. The addition of these two players solidifies the Wesleyan backcourt for the next four years.

Both Johnson and Rosenkranz had opportunities to play at the Division One level for their collegiate years but decided to put a focus on their academic careers and the school that appeared best to fit their overall needs as a student athlete. This goes along with the previously mentioned bigger is not always better philosophy previously discussed in the MSH Blog. It appears more and more of the state’s top players are taking this approach.
