Colvin Receives Offer, Paul Does Not

by

Class of 2009 stars Chris Colvin of Chicago Whitney Young and Brandon Paul of Warren both visited the University of Illinois today as we were the first to report they would.  Chris Colvin walked away with a scholarhsip offer as he was expected to do.  Colvin ranks as the MSH number one player for 2009

Paul did not receive an offer on this visit.  Paul told me that he still enjoyed the visit.

“It was pretty nice.  After the team practiced, Chris (Colvin) and I played with the team a few games.  Dee Brown played on my team.  They are better than I expected, real athletic.  They are going to surprise some people this year. ”

Paul also got to spend some time with his friend and fellow 2009 star, James Kinney of Champaign Centennial.  Kinney showed Paul a good time by taking him around to the finer parts of the city.

The fact that Paul did not receive an offer on this visit can be taken a number of ways.  Paul is one of, if not the fastest rising player in the class of 2009.  He has not begun to even scratched the varsity surface yet as he saw little time there last season.  It is very conceivable, and some would even venture to say likely, that he could have an Iman Shumpert/Evan Turner-like junior season and have high majors from all over the country drooling over him by the time next summer rolls around.  Being the first high major to offer Paul could turn out to pay large dividends for whichever school pulls the trigger first.

It appears that Illinois has drawn their recruiting strategy in the sand for 2009.  If they are going to go for an in-state guard, it looks as if they will target DJ Richardson and Colvin as their top priority guards.  Time will tell how this turns out.
